Today we bring you the Asian Cricketers who scored the most runs in Asia Cup 2014. The Asia Cup was played in February-March 2014, 11 matches were played during February 25- March 8, 2014 at Bangladesh. This was the twelfth edition of the continental cricket tournament run by Asian Cricket Council. Five teams were part of the Asia Cup 2014 viz. India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan & Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka won their 5th title at the tournament. Lasith Malinga & Saeed Ajmal, jointly, took the most wickets in the tournament. Here we discuss the batsmen who hit the most runs in Asia Cup 2014.
5. Anamul Haque (Bangladesh)
Bangladesh batsman Anamul Haque scored 227 runs from the 4 matches he played in the 2014th edition of Asia Cup with an average of 56.75 and best score of 100 coming against Pakistan on March 4. Haque would score a fifty other than this hundred in the tournament as, he, with this run aggregate, featured among the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2014. In his highest score match, Bangladesh had batted first and scored 326/3 from their 50 overs. Haque, Imrul Kayes (59), Mominul Haque (51), Mushfiqur Rahim (51 not out) and Shakib Al Hasan (44 not out) all scored runs. Saeed Ajmal took 2 wickets. Pakistan chased down the target to win the match by 3 wickets; Ahmed Shehzad (103), Fawad Alam (74), Shahid Afridi (59) & Mohammad Hafeez (52) were the key scorers.
4. Ahmed Shehzad (Pakistan)
Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad scored 228 runs from the five matches in the tournament with an average of 45.60 and best score of 103 coming against Bangladesh on March 4 in the high score chase that Pakistan won with Shehzad top-scoring the Pakistan Innings. With this hundred and a fifty, he would feature into the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2014.
3. Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka)
Sri Lanka Cricketer Kumar Sangakkara scored 248 runs from the five matches at an average of 49.60 and best score of 103 coming against India on February 28, 2014. His scores would include a hundred & 2 fifties, as Sangakkara featured among the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2014. In his highest score match, India had batted first & scored 264/9 from their overs with Shikhar Dhawan (94) & Captain Virat Kohli (48) leading the run-scoring for India. Sri Lanka chased down the target and won by 2 wickets with Sanga’s hundred & Kusal Perera (64) being the second highest scorer for them.
2. Umar Akmal (Pakistan)
Pakistan Cricketer Umar Akmal scored 253 runs from five innings of the five matches he played in the tournament with an amazing average of 84.33 and best score of 102 not out coming against Afghanistan on February 27. His scores would include a hundred & 2 fifties, as Akmal would feature among the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2014. In his highest score match, Pakistan had batted first and scored 248/8 with his hundred & Ahmed Shehzad’s 50. Afghanistan, in reply, were bowled out for 176 as only Noor Ali Zadran (44), Asghar Afghan (40) & Nawroz Mangal (35) showed some resistance.
1. Lahiru Thirimanne (Sri Lanka)
Sri Lanka batsman Hettige Don Rumesh Lahiru Thirimanne scored 279 runs from the five matches he played in the tournament with an average of 55.80 and best score of 102 coming against Pakistan on February 25 in the first match of the tournament. This was one of the two centuries scored by Thirimanne as he would lead the top 5 list of most runs in Asia Cup 2014. Batting first, Sri Lanka would score 296/6 from their overs with his 102, Kumar Sangakkara’s 67 & Angelo Mathews’ 55 not out. Pakistan, in reply, were bowled out for 284, falling short by 13 runs on their chase. Lasith Malinga took 5 wickets.
These were the top scorers in the 12th edition of the Asia Cup, in 2014. It was a round robin group stage tournament with 5 teams in same group with each team playing once against one another, top two would go to the tournament final.
